If you spot something that needs fixing or reporting around the village you can always contact the Parish Clerk or any Councillor.
The following contacts give direct access to the relevant authority.
Police: start here
Scams and nuisance calls: report fraud to police or report to ICO
Power cuts: report to UK Power Networks or call 0800 31 63 105
Flooding: Several agencies could be responsible.
- If you see water bubbling out of the ground (not a manhole), it is likely a water leak and should be reported to Affinity Water who should fix it or advise who the pipe belongs to.
- the East Stour Stream runs behind properties east of Stone Street, enters a concrete culvert under the motorway, runs alongside Stone Street just north of the railway bridge then flows towards Westenhanger Castle. Environment Agency is responsible for keeping the stream functioning properly but KCC Highways maintain culverts under the B2068 (Stanford Bypass) and Stone Street. The Environment Agency emergency hotline is on 0800 80 70 60 or maybe 0845 888 1188.
- road drainage is maintained by KCC Highways but their gullies discharge into a combined sewer which is the responsibility of Southern Water. There’s a Southern Water pumping station in Stanford South which takes the discharge of the combined sewer from Stanford and pumps it over the railway line. If the road drainage is blocked, best to contact both agencies.
- at the bottom of Stone Street in Stanford North a culvert on land under which there are high-voltage cables drains surface water towards the turning circle. As of January 2023, who is responsible for maintaining that is unclear.
